Rebekah Johns

Interim Pastor, Head of Staff

Rebekah Johns joined the Three Chopt staff in February 2018 as the Interim Pastor for a covenanted period of time.   She comes with extensive training and experience in interim ministry, with skills in worship leadership, preaching, and administration.  Having served TCPC as interim pastor in 2002-2003, Rebekah was drawn back to the capable and caring congregation she remembers.    She is delighted to rejoin our faith community and help nurture our optimism for the future.   She rejoices in TCPC’s spiritual growth – its love of God and neighbor and its heart for community and missions outreach.

Pastor Rebekah was born and reared in Southern California – the oldest of five children.  She comes with a strong background in ministry: her maternal grandmother, now deceased, was a pastor for more than 60 years with the Pentecostal Church International; and her father, now deceased, was a pastor for 70 years with the Assemblies of God denomination.

Rev. Johns earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Religious Studies and Psychology (with awards in Biblical Studies); a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, with an emphasis in New Testament Studies; and she has done post-graduate work at Union Presbyterian Seminary – Richmond Campus in women’s ministry and leadership.  Ordained in the Presbytery of Philadelphia more than twenty-five years ago, Rev. Johns has served the Church as an associate pastor, an interim pastor, and solo pastor in three presbyteries and five congregations.  She has served on numerous committees of the Presbytery of the James, and as its Moderator in 2007.

In those elusive times when she isn’t serving the church, she can be found at home in Mechanicsville or visiting with family in Waynesboro.  She enjoys smooth jazz, fine cuisine, entertaining, working out, and being a contented homebody.  Devoted and committed to Jesus Christ, she lives to serve God as the Holy Spirit leads.
