Joan Pi has been serving as the music director at Three Chopt since January 2012. She directs the Chancel Choir, Cherub Choir, and the children & youth bell choir, Joyful Noisemakers. She also coordinates music for both Sunday morning worship services, as well as many other music programs and special worship services Three Chopt offers. She was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, moved to Montreal, Canada when she was 18, and has lived in many other areas of North America including Connecticut, Texas, and Long Island, NY before coming to Richmond, VA. She taught music for middle school, high school, and college for seven years while in Texas. Joan holds a doctoral degree from Stony Brook University, a master’s degree in Choral Conducting with a certificate in Sacred Music from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from McGill University. She and her husband, Jaechul “Jay”, a covenant pastor at Burkeville Presbyterian Church (Burkeville, VA) and a chaplain candidate in the U.S. Army Reserve, live in Glen Allen with their daughter, Katelyn.
