Dr. Charles Summers is a long time Richmonder, serving at First Presbyterian for 15 years. At First Presbyterian, Pastor Charlie was known for his compassion, love and understanding. Among other things, he led chapel weekly for the preschool children, where he played his guitar and told lively Bible stories.
He has been a lifelong advocate for social justice, serving for 10 years on the board of Boaz and Ruth, Inc., where he was the first board chair. He is currently on the Public Policy Working Group of our presbytery. He has worked in diverse communities in Washington, DC and Charlotte, NC. While he was a pastor in Charlotte, he was also an adjunct professor of religion at Queens College. His favorite quote is “Justice is what love looks like in the public square”.
He and his wife Marsha have been married for 46 years. He calls that “a good start”. They have three grown children and three grandchildren (He will be glad to show you his pictures).
